Different thicknesses of crane mats

How thick should the crane mats

be for my project?

If you want to use crane mats to protect the soil at your project, you do want to know what thickness will suffice to provide the right protection. Heavy equipment naturally requires thicker crane mats than when you only drive over it with a small crane. Welex Group can advise you on this.

So many different thicknesses

As the specialist in producing, hiring out and selling hardwood crane mats, after more than 45 years of experience, we know exactly what you are going to need for your project. We supply thicknesses from 7 to 30 cm. For short lengths you often use the less thick crane mats and for our 12 metres you need a thickness of 30 cm to prevent sagging. Our largest bogmats can support up to 1,200 tonnes!

Below is a table of the lengths and thicknesses we supply.

Load on crane mats

Our crane mats are generally made of Ekki wood. This wood is incredibly strong and has a strength class of D70. Because it is so strong, it does not bend or break (quickly).

We also produce combination mats made from different combinations of wood. Such as Basralocus and Ekki or Okan and Ekki. This can be useful if costs need to be reduced or if the strength class D70 is not necessarily required.
